March 21: Why Can't Our Babies Breastfeed? With Alison Hazelbaker 1 CE
Currently 75% of mothers say they want to initiate breastfeeding but only 35% are exclusively breastfeeding at 3 months. These statistics are far short of the Surgeon general's goals for breastfeeding. The vast majority of these mothers who quit, quit within the first two weeks post-partum with a very high number stopping the second day after birth. What causes this? Our babies are coming out with poor suck-swallow-breathe coordination, traumatized and with sensory integration problems. Multiple factors contribute to these significant developmental problems. Dr. Hazelbaker talks about the many ways in which our cultural approaches to birth and parenting interfere with breastfeeding and are creating an entire generation of developmentally impaired humans.
